Amid a buzz that senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will vacate the Wayanad (Kerala) seat, his office is learnt to have contacted the Lok Sabha secretariat to find out the process regarding his resignation. Rahul won from both Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh) and Wayanad seats and he is required to relinquish one of the seats within 14 days of the election. Rahul’s office last week approached the Table Branch of Lok Sabha to enquire about the process for his resignation. Sources said the Lok Sabha Speaker was yet to receive his resignation letter.
Continuity, Plus
Dharmendra Pradhan is among the ministers representing continuity in the fourth term of the NDA government. He, along with several of his colleagues, has retained his portfolio. During his interaction with the ministry bureaucrats after assuming charge last week, there was an oblique reference to this.
He, albeit lightheartedly, said that continuity also implies he has as much experience in education as most of his senior officers in the ministry, making it easier for him to address all topics and ensuring no one can sidestep difficult questions through digression.
Keen Context
The RSS is going to hold a meet for its ‘prant pracharaks’ in Ranchi from July 11 to 13. After this, all eyes will be on the annual coordination meeting of all of the Sangh’s affiliated organisations at Palakkad in Kerala from August 31 to September 2, which will be attended, among others, by the BJP president and general secretary (organisation).
These events will be keenly watched as they come soon after the Lok Sabha poll results. RSS insiders, however, say these are routine meetings and the Sangh functions the way it does irrespective of context.
