The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has its anthem.“Waka Waka,” move over.
“Tukoh Taka” is here. Days before the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts its opening ceremony, Nicki Minaj, Maluma, and Myriam Fares are bringing the Arab-Latin fusion on the soccer tournament‘s fan festival anthem.
In the music video, the trio party in the desert, playing off host country Qatar’s arid environment. Arriving on a bus stuffed with an array of revelers waving the flags of their nations, Minaj kicks off the song’s first verse with a mix of Spanish and English bars.
Lebanese singer Myriam Fares joins the party accompanied by a host of dancers grooving to her Arabic verses and the catchy “Tukoh Taka” chorus. During Maluma’s verses, the Colombian artist appears in colorful desert music festival attire.
This weekend, the World Cup kicks off in Qatar, a country that has been responsible for some notoriously awful human rights abuses. The vibes are terrible. Pop stars like Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart have let the world know that they will not take part in the Qatar festivities. Other stars have not had those compunctions. Lil Baby already released one World Cup anthem that heavily samples Tears For Fears. Today, we get another big World Cup song from three global artists.
“I am so happy to be part of this FIFA World Cup anthem!” Maluma said in a press release. “I always dreamt of an opportunity like this. Representing Latin music on this global track alongside amazing artists that sing in English and Arabic, takes our culture.
