Nelson described her experience during the lockdown as “rattling.” “And then, as soon as we left [the mall], I thought, ‘Oh my God, we’re safe, everything is okay,’ but as soon as I arrived at the hotel, all of the emotions returned.”
The Mall of America remained closed for the remainder of the evening, but according to mall spokesman Dan Jasper, the structure will reopen on Friday with tighter security.

“I can’t image how devastating an incident like this is for them,” Jasper added. “People come to the mall every single day to create memories, to have fun, to spend time with their family and their loved ones. We’re thankful that nobody was gravely hurt today thanks to the rapid response of law authorities and mall security.
