Man united hit four again in comeback win over Melbourne Victoryagain in Manchester United continued their fine pre – season from under new boss Erik Ten hag with a 3 – 1 win over Melbourne Vic

Ten Hag again picked his strongest team to start the second game of their tour of Thailand and Australia but after looking shaky at the back in the early stages of their 4-0 win over Liverpool in in Bangkok they struggled again in the opening exchanges against Melbourne.

The hosts, playing their first game of preseason, took the lead inside five minutes when Victor Lindelo

lost Ben Folami down the right and Chris Ikonomidis out-paced  to side-foot past tom Heaton Ten Hag’s side responded with plenty of possession but had to wait until the 25th minute for a meaningful effort when Bruno Fernanddes’ shot was saved by Paul Izzo.

The Victory fans made the most of their lead, chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Ten Hag but two goals in the three minutes at the end of the first half ensured the Dutchman went off at half-time as the happier of the two managers.

First, McTominay saw a heavily deflected shot loop into the net before Martial expertly controlled Diogo Dalot’s  cross from the right and scored from close range. It was Martial’s second goal in as many games on tour after netting just once during a loan spell at Sevilla last season.

Ten Hag again made 10 changes on half-time, handing the captain’s armband to Rashford, who scored the third on 78 minutes.

Eric Bailly burst into midfield and rolled the ball into Rashford to take a touch and poke his finish into the net to score for the first time since January.

There was still time for United to get a fourth when Tahith Chong’s cross was turned into his own net by Lupancu to make it eight goals in two games under Ten Hag.

Manchester United have begun their pre-season tour of Australia with a 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Friday.

After beating Liverpool 4-0 earlier this week, the Red Devils were brought back down to earth in the fifth minute at the MCG as Victory opened the scoring through Chris Ikonomidis.

United would go on to dominate possession but struggled to carve out any clear chances until Scott McTominay’s deflected effort looped Victory’s goalkeeper Paul Izzo in the 43rd minute.

Just minutes later, Anthony Martial was gifted another after the ball broke to him just metres out from goal.

New Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag made 10 changes at the break and Marcus Rashford led the way as he fired home his side’s third in the 78th minute.

Victory spurned a few chances to grab a second goal of their own and ultimately conceded an own goal in the dying minutes after some neat play from Tahith Chong.

Man United youngster Zidane Iqbal catches the eye

Among Ten Hag’s many changes at half-time, the introduction of Zidane Iqbal was one of the most refreshing.

The 19-year-old was electric through the second half, commanding the ball and more often than not producing with it.

Iqbal got his first taste of first-team football with United in late 2021 and he looks ready to step up further in 2022.

Mixed bag from Bailly

Another half-time substitute was Eric Bailly and the centre-back looked particularly shaky early on.

A scuffed clearance was nearly disastrous before a scrappy pass then gifted Victory a golden chance to counter.

Despite those errors, Bailly still had the confidence to venture forward in the 78th minute and delivered a sublime pass that allowed Rashford to score United’s third goal. The 28-year-old was a fringe player at Old Trafford last season and he needs to put in more consistent performances this pre-season if he is to earn Ten Hag’s trust.

Fulltime: United could have made it five right at the death there but they have to settle for a convincing 4-1 win. Two goals in either half for the Red Devils against a Victory side that showed plenty of fight. Ten Hag’s side will now face Crystal Palace at the same venue on Tuesday.
